There are so many different computer programs that people never get to use, but are just so much fun. I had never even heard of Microsoft Publisher before my internship with Titan Consulting, but I am so glad I have now! Granted, I don’t have the money to buy it but maybe one day… Anyway, although it is completely different software, it reminds me of my experience with Adobe Photoshop. After I used it, I wanted to use it again.
It’s just so simple. It gives you a template and you can make whatever you want! And it looks like you sent in articles to a graphic designer who laid it all out for you. But you did it yourself. So now you have a really great product that was cheap to make and your self-esteem is soaring.
Which is another reason I think Publisher is so alluring. With Photoshop, I loved it immediatley even though I barely understood how to do anything with it, even when I had used it a few times. But Publisher I understood immediately. Having originally gone into college with a major in graphic design, the templates it provided were very appealing and so easy to manipulate. It provided the instant gratification.
I feel that Publisher is a program every intern should be introduced to. Not that it is too hard to figure out if you had never used it before, like me, but if you brought in a resume that you made in Publisher, think about what it would say about you. Who needs Word anymore?
